English USA
Lesson 83, Part 2

1.

Part 1に引き続き、ものや場所を比較する表現を学びます。マーティンは職場の同僚たちと自分たちが訪れたことのあるアメリカ各都市の話をしています。彼らは各地の料理についての話をします。

This is English USA, on the Voice of America. Now, Lesson 83, Part 2.

WALEED:

Are there any more cookies?

CARA:

Yes, there are. Didn't you have any breakfast, Waleed?

WALEED:

No. I don't eat breakfast at home.

MARTIN:

Why not?

WALEED:

Breakfast is better in a restaurant. But I didn't have time to eat this morning.

MARTIN:

Howard, do you think food is better at home or in a restaurant?

HOWARD:

At home.

LEE:

Martin, is this your briefcase?

MARTIN:

No, that's Howard's. That's newer than mine. My briefcase is very old.

LEE:

It's newer than mine!

CARA:

I think I have the oldest briefcase in the office. It was my father's.

WALEED:

Are we arguing about briefcases? Let's argue about cities again. I like the cities in the East.

CARA:

Why?

WALEED:

They're older. I don't like the newer cities in the West. Boston is nice.

MARTIN:

It's like a European city, isn't it?

WALEED:

And it isn't as big as New York.

LEE:

Have you been to New Orleans, Waleed? You might like that. Some parts of New Orleans are very old.

WALEED:

Is it the oldest city in the South?

LEE:

I don't know that. No, I don't think so. But it's very old.

CARA:

And you like food. The food is wonderful there.

MARTIN:

It's some of the best food in America.

HOWARD:

I don't like the food very much. I don't think it's that good.

MARTIN:

I disagree. It's the best.

HOWARD:

It's too hot.

MARTIN:

Texas food is hotter.

HOWARD:

Texas food is also too hot.

LEE:

You don't like hot food, I guess.

HOWARD:

Hot food is bad food.

CAST:

Oh, no. How can you say that? What's the matter with you? What about Thai food? etc...

HOWARD:

The worst food is the hottest food.

CARA:

Martin, what is the worst food?

MARTIN:

I think the worst food is greasy food.

CARA:

Waleed, what is the worst food?

WALEED:

The food I cook is bad.

CARA:

I think mine is worse. My mother wasn't a very good cook. My father was better. He taught me some things, but he was always better.

MARTIN:

Do you cook, Howard?

HOWARD:

I'm a good cook. I cook everything but hot food.

WALEED:

Who made the cookies?

CARA:

I did.

WALEED:

They're very good.

CARA:

Thanks. I can make better cookies than my mother.

MARTIN:

The cookies are finished. Should we get back to work?

2.

このレッスンで出てきた比較級、最上級の単語を聴いてください。

CARA:
