This is English USA, on the Voice of America.
Now, Lesson 63, Part 2. |
| |
MARTIN: |
Do
your children work in the circus? |
SALAMA: |
Three of them do. Our oldest son is in the army. |
MARTIN: |
Do
they like the work? |
SALAMA: |
They like other children. It is nice for the children in the
audience to see children in the circus. It's good for the families.
MARTIN: |
Do
they go to school? |
SALAMA: |
Of
course. In the winter they go to a real school. In the summer, they
have a tutor. |
MARTIN: |
What do they do in the circus? |
SALAMA: |
One
son and one daughter are clowns. They are part of a clown family.
The other daughter is a gymnast. She works with another family of
gymnasts. Do you see that young girl over there? |
MARTIN: |
The
one wearing green? |
SALAMA: |
Yes, that's the one. That's our daughter. |
MARTIN: |
She's very beautiful. |
SALAMA: |
Thank you. She's very talented. She's won awards in school for
gymnastics. |
MARTIN: |
I
would like to talk to the family of gymnasts. |
SALAMA: |
They will finish in a few minutes. |
MARTIN: |
Hi.
I'm Martin Learner. I'm a reporter. Can I ask a few questions?
TODD: |
Sure. We're the Todds. I'm Jerry Todd. |
MARTIN: |
All
of you belong to one family. |
TODD: |
Yes, we're all related. Well, except this one. She's Zulu and
Salama's daughter. |
MARTIN: |
That's wonderful. Tell me how you're related. |
TODD: |
This is my wife. |
MARTIN: |
Hello. Are all of these your children? |
TODD: |
No,
no. Some are nieces and nephews. These are my children. All the
others are our nieces and nephews. The children are cousins. |
MARTIN: |
One, two, three. . . There are ten children. |
TODD: |
We
like working with children. This old man is my father-in-law. |
Grandfather: |
I'm
old, but strong. |
TODD: |
He
holds all these children on his shoulders. And this beautiful lady
is my mother-in-law. |
MARTIN: |
I'm
interested in circus families. Let me see. You are all cousins.
Whose niece are you? |
NIECE: |
I'm
uncle Jerry's niece. And this is my brother. He's uncle Jerry's
nephew. |
NEPHEW: |
I'm
aunt Amy's nephew too. |
MARTIN: |
Are
your parents with the circus? |
NIECE: |
Yes, they are. |
NEPHEW: |
But
they aren't gymnasts. |
MARTIN: |
Do
you have any other cousins? |
NIECE: |
I
don't think so. Do we? |
NEPHEW: |
We
have some cousins in Florida. |
NIECE: |
Oh,
yes. I forgot. They aren't with the circus. |
MARTIN: |
Let's see. Some of these children are your grandchildren.
Grandfather: That's right. |
MARTIN: |
Do
you like working with your grandparents? |
NEPHEW: |
It's OK. |
NIECE: |
I
like it. My grandmother teaches me. |
TODD: |
She
teaches all of us. |
