Part 1に引き続き、たまたま出会った人や初めて会う人たちと会話する際に便利な表現を学びます。マーティンは国立公園に遊びに来ている人たちがなぜその公園に来ているのかを尋ねます。

  This is English USA, on the Voice of America. Now, Lesson 61, Part 2.
   

 

MARTIN:

Hello. It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

 

MAN 3:

Yes, but it looks like rain. Do you think it will rain?

 

MARTIN:

I don't think it will rain today. Do you come to the park often?

 

MAN 3:

Yes. We live nearby.

 

MARTIN:

Why do you come to the park?

 

MAN 3:

We like birds.

 

MARTIN:

What do you mean we like birds?

 

MAN 3:

My wife and I like birds. We come here to see the birds.

 

MARTIN:

Where is your wife now?

 

MAN 3:

She went to the car to get our food. We're going to eat in the park. We like to bring our food to the park.

 

MARTIN:

Where do you eat?

 

MAN 3:

There are nice places. There are tables near the lake. And some by the river.

 

MARTIN:

Enjoy your lunch.

 

MAN 3:

Sure. Thanks.

 

 

 

 

WOMAN 2:

Hi. Do you know where the waterfall is?

MARTIN:

Straight ahead. It's about a half a mile that way.

 

WOMAN 2:

Thanks. It's a beautiful day, isn't it?

 

MARTIN:

Not bad. It's a little cold.

 

WOMAN 2:

Oh, I like that. I like cold weather. I don't like summer. It's too hot. Don't you like cold weather.

 

MARTIN:

No, not very much. Do you come here in the winter?

 

WOMAN 2:

Yes. I like the park in winter.

 

MARTIN:

Why?

 

WOMAN 2:

It's so clean. There aren't any leaves. There aren't many people. Winter is the best time in the park.

 

MARTIN:

Do you like snow?

 

WOMAN 2:

I like a little snow. My husband likes snow.

 

MARTIN:

Why do you like the park in the snow?

 

WOMAN 2:

I like the trees in winter. I like the hills. You can see very far. We see animals in the winter. Do you come here in winter?

 

MARTIN:

No, I don't live here. I live in Baltimore. It's too far.

 

WOMAN 2:

Well, enjoy your day. We're going to the waterfall.

 

MARTIN:

It's very nice. Have a good day.

 

WOMAN 2:

Thanks.

 

 

 

 

MAN 4:

Do you know what this tree is?

 

MARTIN:

What do you mean?

 

MAN 4:

What kind of tree is this?

 

MARTIN:

It's a walnut, isn't it?

 

MAN 4:

I don't know. I don't know American trees.

 

MARTIN:

Where are you from?

 

MAN 4:

California.

 

MARTIN:

California is part of America.

 

MAN 4:

I live in California now. I was born in China.

 

MARTIN:

I see. Well, I think it's a walnut tree.

 

MAN 4:

It's very beautiful.

 

MARTIN:

And it makes very beautiful wood. It's very expensive wood.
