This is English USA, on the Voice of America. Now, Lesson 60, Part 1.

POLICEMAN:

Quiet, please.

POLICEMAN:

May I have your attention? Quiet, please.

MAN 1:

Who are you?

JENNIFER:

Are you the police? We've had burglars!

POLICEMAN:

Yes, we're the police. I'm Detective Hansen. Those two men and that woman are going to look around the office. I want to ask you some questions.

JENNIFER:

We have never been burglarized before.

POLICEMAN:

Unfortunately, we've seen many burglaries.

MAN 1:

In offices?

POLICEMAN:

In offices, homes, stores. Everywhere. I've been investigating burglaries for ten years.

JENNIFER:

We might have been killed.

POLICEMAN:

I don't think so. Burglars don't want to hurt or kill anyone. They come at night or on the weekend.

MAN 1:

Sometimes we work at night.

JENNIFER:

Or on Saturday.

POLICEMAN:

I know. It can be a problem. Then people can get hurt.

WOMAN:

And look at the mess.

MAN 2:

They threw everything all together.

WOMAN:

They put all the papers and boxes and books here. This is my coffee cup.

JENNIFER:

And this is my basket.

MAN 1:

It's a mess.

POLICEMAN:

Whose cup is this?

MAN 1:

It's mine.

POLICEMAN:

Whose papers are these?

JENNIFER:

Let me see. They're mine.

WOMAN:

Those books are mine.

MAN 1:

This is my pen. It has my name on it.

MARTIN:

Excuse me. I found this briefcase in the stairway.

POLICEMAN:

Who are you?

MARTIN:

I'm Martin Learner.

POLICEMAN:

Do you work in this office?

MARTIN:

No. I'm looking for Miss Jennifer Donnelly. What's going on?

JENNIFER:

We've had a burglar.

WOMAN:

Last night. They took my computer.

JENNIFER:

I'm Jennifer Donnelly. We had an appointment, didn't we?

MARTIN:

Yes, at nine o'clock. I'm sorry I'm late.

JENNIFER:

Don't worry. Look at this mess.

MARTIN:

I can come back later.

JENNIFER:

That's all right. We can talk in my office.

MARTIN:

OK.

POLICEMAN:

OK, everyone. Go to work. Go to your offices. I want to talk to you one by one.

JENNIFER:

Come in Mr. Learner. This is my office.

2.

自分の持ち物は人称代名詞 "I"の所有格 "my" +名詞、たとえば"my pen"のように言います。

WOMAN:

This is my coffee cup.

JENNIFER:

And this is my basket.

MAN 1:

This is my pen.

3.

これからマーティンが言うものを"This is my ----."と自分のものであると言ってください。まずマーティンと女性が例を示します。その後、ストーリーは続きます。

MARTIN:

It's a coffee cup.

WOMAN:

This is my coffee cup.

MARTIN:

It's a pen.

YOU:

[This is my pen.]

MARTIN:

It's a basket.

YOU:

[This is my basket.]

MARTIN:

It's a book.

YOU:

[This is my book.]

POLICEMAN:

Excuse me. May I come in? I want to ask some questions.

JENNIFER:

Of course.

POLICEMAN:

Whose tape recorder is this?

MARTIN:

That's my tape recorder. I'm sorry. I left it on the desk outside.

POLICEMAN:

Is this your briefcase?

MARTIN:

No, it's not mine.

JENNIFER:

Maybe it's Rollin's briefcase. It looks like his. Would you like some coffee, Detective Hansen?

POLICEMAN:

Thanks, but the burglar took the coffee machine.

JENNIFER:

The coffee machine! Why would a burglar take a coffee machine?

POLICEMAN:

He can sell it.

MARTIN:

Or he likes coffee.

POLICEMAN:

I'll come back in a few minutes.

Lesson 60, Part 1はこれで終わりです。
