自分の行いに過失があった場合などの詫び方を学びます。マーティンは彼の住む地域住民らからの嘆願書について市の環境課事務局の担当者と話し会うために約束した訪問時間に遅れてしま いました。市の環境課への訪問は地域住民の一人である イーディス・ヒル教授が同行しています。

MARTIN:

Good morning, Edith. I'm sorry I'm late. How long have you been here?

　

EDITH:

Good morning. I've just arrived.

　

MARTIN:

It's raining very hard.

　

EDITH:

I know. It has been raining all morning. The traffic was terrible.

　

MARTIN:

I left my apartment an hour ago. The rain has been terrible. Are we very late for our meeting?

　

EDITH:

It's all right. I called the office.

　

MARTIN:

That's good. Thanks.

　

EDITH:

That's OK. Let's go.

　

　

　

　

EDITH:

Good morning, Mr. Sample. I'm Edith Hill.

　

SAMPLE:

Good morning. How are you?

　

EDITH:

Fine thanks. This is Martin Learner.

　

MARTIN:

Good morning.

　

SAMPLE:

Hello. I'm happy to meet both of you. You've come for something about NEAT.

　

MARTIN:

And I'm very sorry I'm late.

　

SAMPLE:

No problem. That's all right.

　

MARTIN:

The traffic was terrible.

　

SAMPLE:

Yes, I know. It rained all night. I left home at seven o'clock this morning, but I was late.

　

EDITH:

Where do you live?

　

SAMPLE:

I live in the country.

　

EDITH:

We do apologize.

　

SAMPLE:

Don't worry. It's all right. Would you like some coffee?

　

MARTIN:

If you have time, I'd like coffee.

　

EDITH:

Yes, please.

　

SAMPLE:

Please help yourself.

　

EDITH:

Thanks. May I pour you a cup, Martin?

　

MARTIN:

Yes. Thank you.

　

SAMPLE:

You're here about NEAT, aren't you? What can I do for you?

　

MARTIN:

We need your help. Edith can explain.

　

EDITH:

We are making a proposal to the city for our neighborhood.

　

EDITH:

Oh, I'm so sorry. I spilled coffee on your table.

　

SAMPLE:

No problem. Don't worry. It won't hurt the table. Here's a napkin.

　

EDITH:

I am really sorry.

　

SAMPLE:

That's all right. Now, where were we? You were telling me about a proposal, weren't you?

　

EDITH:

I apologize.

　

SAMPLE:

Don't mention it.

　

EDITH:

Our neighborhood group prepared a proposal to the city. We need your help. Can you take a look at the proposal before we send it to the city?

　

MARTIN:

Tell him about the petition.

　

EDITH:

I'm sorry. I forgot the petition. We wrote a petition asking the city to help clean up our neighborhood.

　

SAMPLE:

That's Hillside neighborhood, isn't it?

　

EDITH:

Yes, it is.

EDITH:

Yes, here's a copy. Ohhhh, I'm so sorry. I've spilled coffee on it.
