This is English USA, on the Voice of America.
Now, Lesson 53, Part 2. |
| |
BOB: |
What's your name again? |
MARTIN: |
Martin. Martin Learner. |
BOB: |
What brings you to Smithville? |
MARTIN: |
I'm
on my way to Long Lake. |
BOB: |
Are
you an actor? |
MARTIN: |
No,
I'm a reporter. |
BARBER: |
He's writing a story about the theater. |
MARTIN: |
That's right. |
BOB: |
What are you doing here at Joe's? |
MARTIN: |
I
needed a haircut. |
BOB: |
There are a lot of other places to get a haircut in Smithville.
BARBER: |
Too
many. |
MARTIN: |
What do you mean? |
BARBER: |
For
men, there were only two barbers five years ago. |
MARTIN: |
How
many are there now? |
BARBER: |
I'm
the only barber. |
BOB: |
The
others are those unisex shops. You know, the ones where both men and
women can get their hair cut. There are three or four of those now.
BARBER: |
There are two of them at the shopping mall. |
BOB: |
I'm
afraid to go in those places. |
BARBER: |
Well, don't go in if it says beauty shop. You're no beauty. |
MARTIN: |
If
the sign says hair, it's probably all right. |
BARBER: |
That's right. You've got lots of hair. |
RICK: |
Good morning, Joe. Where's Bill? |
BARBER: |
Hello, Rick. He left a few minutes ago. |
RICK: |
May
I wait here? I'm meeting him here. |
BARBER: |
Of
course. |
RICK: |
Thanks. Hi, Bob. |
BOB: |
Good morning, Rick. |
BARBER: |
This is Martin. He's a reporter. |
RICK: |
Hello, Mr. Martin. |
MARTIN: |
Not
Mr. Martin. Martin Learner. Just call me Martin. |
RICK: |
I'm
Rick. What brings you to Smithville? |
BARBER: |
You
should get a sign, Martin. Going to Long Lake. |
RICK: |
I'm
sorry. |
MARTIN: |
That's OK. I don't mind. I'm going to write a story about the summer
theater at Long Lake. Do the actors stay here in Smithville? |
BOB: |
No,
they have a place at the Lake. |
BARBER: |
Near the theater. |
RICK: |
Some of them come into Smithville to shop. |
BARBER: |
And
to get their hair cut. |
