Lesson 46, Part 2

1.

 

Part 1に引き続き、場所や地域について尋ねることを学びます。マーティンは外国のジャーナリストのグループを連れてワシントンD.C.の見物に出かけます。彼らはバスから見える場所について話します。

  This is English USA, on the Voice of America. Now, Lesson 46 Part 2.
   

 

MALE:

Melvin, are we going to your home?

 

MELVIN:

We're going to my neighborhood.

 

FEMALE:

Is it near?

 

MELVIN:

Not too far. It's over there.

 

MALE:

Is it a new neighborhood?

 

MELVIN:

No, it's very old.

 

MARTIN:

Where are you from?

 

FEMALE:

I'm from Kenya.

 

MARTIN:

Do you like Washington?

 

FEMALE:

Yes, I do. I have friends here. I visited them two years ago.

 

MARTIN:

Are you a television reporter?

 

FEMALE:

Yes, I am. I report the news at night. Where are we going now?

 

MARTIN:

We're going to Melvin's neighborhood.

 

MELVIN:

We're here now. This is my neighborhood. This is the business area. That's a nice park on the right.

 

FEMALE:

It's beautiful.

 

MELVIN:

It's very nice in the evening. This long street has many small businesses.

 

MALE:

What kind of buildings are those?

 

MELVIN:

Those are apartment buildings.

 

FEMALE:

They're small.

 

MELVIN:

They're not very big. We don't have tall buildings in my neighborhood.

 

MARTIN:

Where do you live, Melvin?

 

MELVIN:

Just around the corner. See that old stone building? It's a bank. I'm going to turn there. I live down that street.

 

MALE:

Do white people live here?

 

MELVIN:

Not many. OK. Do you see that blue house? That's my house.

 

FEMALE:

It's very nice. I like the color.

 

MELVIN:

Thanks.

 

MARTIN:

Thanks, Melvin. Let's go to Georgetown.

 

MELVIN:

OK. I'm going to drive along the river.

 

MARTIN:

Good. That's very beautiful.

 

MARTIN:

Hi. You're from --?

 

MALE:

Thailand. I'm from Bangkok.

 

MARTIN:

We met last year.

 

MALE:

Yes. I came to study. I visited the Voice of America.

 

MARTIN:

That's right. You're a radio journalist.

 

MALE:

Yes, I am.

 

MARTIN:

Look everybody. That's Georgetown.

 

FEMALE:

On that big hill?

 

MALE:

That's not very big.

 

MARTIN:

Yes. The taller buildings are Georgetown University. Can you see the church? That area is the university.

 

FEMALE:

I can see houses and apartments.

 

MARTIN:

Yes. There are many beautiful old houses in Georgetown.

 

FEMALE:

Is it very old?

 

MARTIN:

It's the oldest part of Washington.

 

MALE:

Do congressmen and congresswomen live here?

 

MARTIN:

Some do. President Kennedy had a home here. Many wealthy people live here.

MALE:

I'm not wealthy either.

 

MARTIN:

What do you want to see now?

 

CAST:

The Smithsonian. I want to see the Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Monument. The White House. Let's see the Cathedral. Etc.
