May I talk to some people?

　

HAROON:

Yes. Come with me.

　

HAROON:

Good morning, Mrs. Ely.

　

MRS. E:

Who is he?

　

HAROON:

This is Martin Learner.

　

MRS. E:

Is he a doctor?

　

HAROON:

No, he isn't. He's a reporter.

　

MRS. E:

What does he want?

　

MARTIN:

I want to ask some questions. May I?

　

MRS. E:

Pardon?

　

MARTIN:

May I ask some questions?

　

MRS. E:

Why?

　

MARTIN:

I want to ask about the people in this clinic.

　

MRS. E:

They're old and sick.

　

MARTIN:

Are they all sick?

　

MRS. E:

No. They're all old.

　

MARTIN:

Are you sick?

　

MRS. E:

No. But I'm old.

　

MARTIN:

How old are you?

　

MRS. E:

I'm not going to say.

　

MARTIN:

I'm sorry.

　

MRS. E:

I'm more than seventy.

　

MARTIN:

You look like my grandmother.

　

MRS. E:

Do you like your grandmother?

　

MARTIN:

Of course. I love my grandmother.

　

MRS. E:

What does she look like?

　

MARTIN:

She's beautiful. She's tall.

　

MRS. E:

Does she have gray hair?

　

MARTIN:

Her hair is brown.

　

MRS. E:

My hair is gray. It was brown.

　

HAROON:

Mrs. Ely comes here with her brother.

　

MARTIN:

You're not sick.

　

MRS. E:

No, I'm not sick. I'm healthy and strong.

　

HAROON:

That's right. Excuse me. I'm going to see my patients.

　

MRS. E:

I like the doctor. He's very nice. He's handsome too.

　

MARTIN:

Where is your brother?

　

MRS. E:

He's outside. Come here. Do you see that man with the newspaper?

　

MARTIN:

Yes.

　

MRS. E:

That's my brother.

　

MARTIN:

He's very handsome.

　

MRS. E:

He's very smart too. He was a teacher.

　

MARTIN:

What did he teach?

　

MRS. E:

He was a mathematics teacher. Do you want to talk to my brother?

　

MARTIN:

May I?

　

　

　

　

MARTIN:

Your sister is very interesting, Mr. Riggins.

　

REX:

Call me Rex. She likes to talk. She said I was smart.

　

MARTIN:

Yes, she did.

　

REX:

She always tells people. I was a teacher. A mathematics teacher.

　

MARTIN:

You're not sick?

　

REX:

No, no. We come here for our shots.

　

MARTIN:

Shots? What shots?

　

REX:

For flu. You know, influenza. Influenza shots. We don't want that! Do you like Dr. Haroon?

　

MARTIN:

We just met. I don't know him.

　

REX:

I like him. He's been here for ten months. He's very kind and helpful.
