This is English USA, on the Voice of America.
Now, Lesson 100, Part 2. |
MARTIN: |
What does Vivian do for
you besides filing? |
CARA: |
Quite a lot. She does
word processing. She does some scheduling. |
MARTIN: |
How does she do that
work? |
CARA: |
Quite well. She's a very
good word processor. |
MARTIN: |
I think so too. She has
done very good word processing for me. |
ELAINE: |
Excuse me, Martin. I'm
looking for Cara. Oh, here you are. |
MARTIN: |
Come in. We were just
talking about Vivian. |
CARA: |
I've been thinking. I may
have been wrong about Vivian. |
ELAINE: |
In what way?
CARA: |
I don't like the way she
files. I don't understand her filing. It isn't useful for me. |
ELAINE: |
It
should be helpful to you. She works for you. |
CARA: |
But
she does other things well. Martin says she does excellent work for
him. What do other people say? |
ELAINE: |
About the same thing. Waleed thinks she's a wonderful office
assistant. But you know he had a terrible assistant last year.
CARA: |
What does he like about her? |
ELAINE: |
She
helps him keep organized. |
CARA: |
Organized!? I'm very surprised. I thought she couldn't organize.
MARTIN: |
That's not fair, Cara. She may not be able to organize files. But
she is very good at organizing other things. You said she organizes
your schedule. |
CARA: |
That's true. I can't schedule. |
ELAINE: |
Howard thinks very highly of her too. He gave her a very strong
evaluation. |
CARA: |
What did he like about her? |
ELAINE: |
Everything. I guess he liked her word processing skills best. She
types very fast. She's very accurate. She knows all about computers.
MARTIN: |
Yes, she's answered my questions several times. She must know quite
a lot. |
CARA: |
I
think I've made a mistake. Can I change my evaluation? |
ELAINE: |
Of
course. I haven't finished Vivian's evaluation yet. I haven't
written everything. What would you like to say? |
CARA: |
I
would say she's a very good office assistant. |
ELAINE: |
What about the filing? I would mention that. |
CARA: |
But
the other things are very good. Everyone thinks so. |
ELAINE: |
She can be wonderful but still need improvement. Everyone does.
CARA: |
It's not bad for her evaluation to say she needs improvement. |
ELAINE: |
Of
course not. I want you to be truthful. When I talk to her about the
evaluation, I'll talk about filing. |
CARA: |
Can
you help her improve her filing skills? |
ELAINE: |
Perhaps. We'll talk to you about what you want. Then I'll try to
help her. That's my job. |
CARA: |
Thanks. I feel much better about this. |
